A FEW WORDS ABOUT US
We are a transformative NGO that has been at the forefront of fighting against gender-based violence, rape, and child sexual abuse in Nigeria for over a decade.
How it all began
How a vision became a movement:
Founded over 13 years ago, Heartminders Initiative is a leading voice in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV), child sexual abuse, and rape, as well as a strong advocate for women’s rights and gender equality in Nigeria. Driven by our mission to create a society where every woman, girl, and child is safe, empowered, and free from violence, we have consistently worked at the forefront of transformative change through education, advocacy, community engagement, and support services.
Heartminders Initiative is not just an organization; it is a movement dedicated to protecting vulnerable populations, promoting mental health awareness, and fostering resilience in the face of adversity. With a passionate team of professionals, advocates, and volunteers, we leverage our expertise and resources to bring real change to lives, communities, and the broader society. Our approach is holistic, combining prevention, empowerment, and recovery to ensure that survivors of abuse and marginalized groups receive the comprehensive support they need to rebuild their lives.
Our Commitment to Mental Health
At Heartminders Initiative, we recognize that mental health is integral to well-being and that survivors of GBV often face long-term psychological effects. Our organization prioritizes mental health advocacy, awareness, and support by:
• Providing trauma-informed counseling and therapeutic interventions tailored to the needs of survivors.
• Hosting mental health workshops that address the emotional impact of abuse and strategies for resilience.
• Collaborating with mental health professionals and organizations to improve access to quality care for underserved populations.

Our school programs are designed to promote safe environments, encourage reporting of abuse, and build the self-esteem of young people.
• Supporting 5,500 Women: Through economic empowerment initiatives, vocational training, and psychosocial support, we have helped over 5,500 women gain the skills and resilience needed to break free from cycles of violence and rebuild their lives.
• Impacting 35 Communities: Our grassroots mobilization efforts have reached 35 communities, where we conduct outreach on the prevention of GBV, child abuse, and mental health awareness. We partner with local leaders to ensure that community-based interventions are culturally relevant and sustainable.
