Blog is often described as having the platform or microphone; an opportunity for you to voice your opinion or share knowledge. With today’s technology there is not much difference between a blog and an online newsletter as a communication tool.
For us at The Heartminders Project, blogging is a project. We intend to through the medium, communicate healthy relationship tips to youths and young adults.
The Basics
Through blogging, we can help our teenagers and young adults build strong, respectful healthy relationships. We hope to help youth:
- Develop skills for healthy and safe relationships
- Set expectations for how they want to be treated
- Recognize when a relationship is unhealthy
Talking about healthy relationships is a great way to show that you are available to listen and answer questions.
We also take cognizance of national and international days affecting youths and we have programs around these special days.
- International Day of a girl child – October 11th: On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare 11 October as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. Heartminders project has adopted a roundtable discussion yearly since 2012 to celebrate girls on this day. we invite notable Nigerians, distinct individual and NGOs to do justice to themes suggested by the UN.
- Day of an African child – June 16th: The Day of the African Child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991, when it was first initiated by the OAU Organisation of African Unity. It honors those who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976 on that day.
